Quest for the Golden Apple Game Creator Experience

Design Document / planning / brainstorming
The Castle
The document link above is my game design document. When I was planning this game, I had the idea of having an invasion of some type. I then made a castle where you had to invade and then go to a cave system where it would be a maze. You would then have to go through 2 parkour levels and then take a mine cart to a forest, where you would battle mobs until you reach the pillar and from there on you eat the golden apple, saving everyone from the kingdom and you now can start your own colony!

Development of the Game
I chose a world where there was a deep crater, where it would have the forest. I planted as many trees as possible so it could be a maze. Then I created the castle, and underneath it the dungeon. Fortunately, there was already a developed cave system. I explored as much as possible of it to make it a proper maze. I created a temple and soon cleared out a giant opening where there was no end to it. After that, I installed a starting place where players could start in. I established the river as a trail to the forest from the underground.

The Beta Testing process / receiving peer feedback
I received feedback that the extra details were very professional and that the castle was amazing. They said that the game play also felt engaging to them.

Improving / Iterating on the Game
 I made some edits to my original world such as spawners, extra details, traps, and NPC's. All of this overall improved game play and made everything more exciting.

Challenges encountered / how you overcame them
I had problems with Redstone where sometimes, my invention did not go as planned or did not work at all such as doors. I then resolved it with a few websites and now everything is working properly. I then had to have a castle design that was sophisticated and seemed complex to the player. I had to go through many edits and iterations to find the perfect castle design. I also had problems with the pillar that they had to climb, which looked unprofessional. I then spiced things up by making it more intimidating to the player when they approach it.

Aha moments and feelings of accomplishments through the process.
I had an aha moment when I found out that there was a perfect cave system right under the castle where I could use it as a maze. I also found out that there was a river that leads to the forest and that made it the perfect trail to the forest and making it a better experience. Some feelings of accomplishments that were felt were when I finished construction of the castle, establishing the cave system as a maze, finishing the temple and parkour, and obviously, finishing the game.

Detailed Walkthrough

You first spawn in a cave hideout, where the king, some servants, and a medical team are standing in. There are droppers where it would give you the necessary items for your adventure once you leave the hideout. There are detailed instructions that are given with signs or NPCs. You go out and follow the broken path and torches (better follow the torches, they are the main guidelines) and soon a castle comes into view. You go to the front gate and you set a TNT and it blows open the front gate. You enter and you fight with many mobs that are guarding the castle the king once owned. You try to find a button or switch and other equipment in the four shelters and go to the throne. You activate the throne and the throne opens and you fall into the dungeon. You fight prison guards and go to the warden's office where you hit a lever and it opens a secret door and you enter the cave system. You go through the cave fighting zombies until you find sea lanterns that guide the way or you find the temple yourself. You then go right through a wall of lava that if you do it right, you can pass through barely harmed. You do some sketchy parkour that has the end right under your feet (picking up a switch in a chest along the way) and soon opens another secret door. You do another set of parkour but this time in a narrow lava hallway. After that, you go to a mine where you find a switch to open a door that lets you access the mine to go out. You take a mine cart and go to the surface until you reach a dead end. You go down the hill and there is a dock and you embark on a river to another dock waiting for you on the destination. You go into a hut and soon you leave to go enter the forest. There you follow the torches until you go to the top of a hill, overseeing the dense forest and there is a pillar in the distance. You must enter the forest and brave against the mobs until you reach the tower where you go up it and open a chest. Inside is a golden apple and mine carts. You eat the golden apples and you soon revive all humans in the whole wide kingdom. You jump into a water source and soon take a mine cart to a railroad where it leads you safely out of the forest and soon you finish the game. You could either finish the game or start your own colony with the open country right in front of you.

Automatic Armor Equipper

Automatic Armor Equipper

In minecraft, I built a Minecraft armor equipper. This machine can help you to quickly gain a full set of armor and quickly put it on. It comes with handy signs also to show which dispensers to fill when you are refilling it with armor. There is 2 Redstone dust that is placed down since they are used to activate the dispensers which thus give you the armor quickly. All it takes is to just press one button and you instantly get a full set of armor.

 The pictures on the right-hand side are what's inside the dispensers.
It seemed straight forward to make, but it took me around a week to design and create a design that was a simple and as reliable as possible. One challenge i had was with the Redstone dust and I realized from youtube videos that I could have Redstone as shown in the picture above and it would still activate the dispensers.

Storyline – Storyline should include 2 - 3 paragraphs describing the background story to provide context.  Include information related to plot, conflict, and goal.
The King has a sick son named Bob CIX. He is diagnosed with a disease that is almost impossible to cure. The only way to cure him is with the golden apple. The world used to be abundant with them, but due to a huge wildfire that wiped out most of the trees and recent explosions and raids in the gold mines, there is only one golden apple left. It is hidden in a maze- The Labyrinth of New Mincrayzstan. There used to be railroads that lead right to it,  but the raids have turned it to ruins. The walls are made out of magical bushes, making them indestructible. They’re so sturdy, nothing can penetrate it. It is so heavily trapped, no one has survived in the maze for more than half an hour. The King’s son is about to pass away, so the King has asked you have to find that apple fast! You accept the challenge and soon take a portal to the nearest sufficient tower to the maze.
Characters- Include name and detailed description of characters.  Character description should give reader a good about who the character / enemy / boss / npc is, what their abilities are, what they look like, etc.
  • Playable Character(s): Your character can have any skin you want but if you would like to match the theme, you should go for a medieval theme skin. You do not start with any special abilities but in the 2nd level you will be given the chance of acquiring potions to assist you in the next stages. Also you will be given a horse in the 2nd stage.
  • Enemies:  Enemies are zombies or other mobs. They have succumbed to the disease that the king’s son has, and they are now a lifeless zombies.


  • Boss(es):  around 10 ghasts will be the bosses in the final stage and you will not be given any bows. (Only what you got before the final stage.)
  • NPCs – Villagers (Trading and being trapped civilians), Zombies, Zombie Villagers/Horses (Infected people and livestock), Ghasts, Skeletons, Endermen, baby zombies.
Levels (describe how each level is different from the last.  This should include the look and feel of each level (i.e. if a level takes place in the desert, describe the desert environment, etc.)  Also discuss how each level will increase in difficulty (i.e. Does the level have a boss, certain monsters, spikes, etc. )
  • Intro Screen options: You start in a tower where past soldiers have used for surveying the land. There are signs on the walls that tell you the story line of the story: The King has a sick son named Kyishanbouticatigorerwequandawipandabae XIV. He is diagnosed with a disease that is almost impossible to cure. The only way for him to able to be cured is with the golden apple. The world used to be abundant with them, but due to a huge arson by the resistance fighters of the enemies in the past that wiped out most of the trees and recent explosions and raids in the gold mines, there is only one golden apple left. It is hidden in a maze- The Labyrinth of New Mincrayzstan that was built thousands of years ago. There used to be railroad that lead right to it,  but the raids have turned it to ruins. His son is about to pass away, so the King has asked you have to find that apple fast!
  • Level 1: You first have to jump off the podium since there are suddenly zombie villagers attacking you and then parkour to the next tower to complete the level. Inside the 2nd tower are potions that were forgotten long ago.
  • Level 2: You go down the stairs of the tower and soon you acquire an abandoned horse. You use your supplies from the tower to tame the horse and proceed to a horse track. The zombie villagers then charge after you and you must complete the jumps or you will die. You then ride to a one by one hole and only you must jump in where you pass through chasms and then get a diamond minecart and go through an abandoned mine and reach the top.
  • Level 3: Soon you must go through a difficult maze and once you pass the traps such as disappearing floors and hidden doors, you will climb a ladder but there is no sides for you to lean on while you go up so if you turn too much to the right or left, you fall. Once you reach that, you take a minecart and go through a railroad that is still functional into a forest.
  • Level 4: In the forest, you will try to attempt to find and grab the golden apple in the dense forest and running away back to the magical railroad back to the castle while avoiding ghasts and zombies. Once you acquired the golden apple, you will be crowned hero of all New Mincrayzstan.
Objects: (items that you encounter in the game (i.e. powerups, weapons, coins, armor, etc.)
  • Buttons/switches to activate hidden doors that are part of the wall.
  • Item in the map that enable you to construct a sword and armor.
  • Food to not starve.
  • There will be some trading posts along the map so you could trade the villagers things to get supplies.
Scoring Mechanisms:  (Health, Score, Lives, time limits, etc.)- indicate which types of scoring mechanisms you plan to employ and explain each and if they occur only on certain levels, please indicate that as well.
  •  You only get one chance to do the whole game but there are rest-stops for food and regaining health with potions
  •  You will be given potions and extra supplies in every trading post (there's one for every stage) to assist you such as healing, speed, jumping, etc.
Winning / Losing Scenario:  Indicate what conditions should be met to win the game and what results in a loss or ‘game over’.  If your game allows for continued opportunity to restart at a checkpoint or on the current level, please indicate how that will work in your game.
  • You must acquire the golden apple in the forest and return back to the castle without dying. If you die during the game, you will have to start all over again in the beginning.
Controls: (What buttons do what? Move? Shoot? Special powers? Restart? )
  •  There will be the traditional WASD keys to move.
  •  To hit something, you left click.
  •  To shoot at something, you hold right click to aim and let go to fire.
Game Mechanics / Game Play- Please describe the general game mechanics y



ou intend to employ. Focus on how the game will be played - use this as brainstorming time to consider the general approach to gameplay. (For example, in a collectible card game, you may have cards that represent magic and need a certain number of magic to play a spell, etc.)
  • My game play would be “Catch up” where the game gets increasingly harder as the player progresses throughout the game. In the first level, all the player needs to do is do relatively easy parkour to another tower but on the last level, the player will have to defend themselves with only trees and the weapons they created to get the golden apple, while surrounded by ghasts trying to eliminate the player.
Special Considerations regarding automating your game - Use this area to describe how you plan to approach the development and how you plan to make things ‘work’ in your game. For example, if you are making a game in Minecraft, consider how you will create a starting point, how you will ensure that players don’t break blocks they aren’t supposed to, how you will spawn enemies, etc. etc. etc.

  • The starting point of my game would be the spawn point of the world. To ensure that no player cannot break blocks, I will op myself and use the command (not in education minecraft) spawn-protection=999999999 so the huge radius around the spawn (which would definitely cover the whole game map) would disable the breaking of blocks.
